From Roman daybeds fit for royalty to Freud’s famous couch to the modern poolside lounge, chaise lounges have remained fashionable throughout history, largely due to their comfortable and versatile design. But it wasn’t until the twentieth century when people realized that comfortable seating options shouldn’t just be limited to indoors that outdoor chaise lounges became popular in the United States. Summer Classics has been setting trends in the outdoor furniture industry for more than 35 years and we pride ourselves in offering the best in a variety of furniture options (including chaise lounges!), which is why we are proud to announce the addition of our new ADA accessible chaise lounge!
Our new ADA sling chaise lounge, the Lakeshore, features a taller 20-inch height and fixed arms to make for easy and safe entry and exit. A wider 26-inch sling seat provides extra security while seated. In addition, its aluminum honeycomb frame guarantees durability and longevity against the elements, while its coastal weight ensures that chaises will not be affected by sea breezes. It is available in all the same colors as our standard sling furniture, allowing customers to mix and match with other sling furniture, such as our standard sling chaises and our sling chairs.
“With the creation of the Lakeshore chaise we aimed foråÊa familiar design that would be accessible for as many people and body types as possible.” says Don Smith, Vice President of Contract Sale. “From there, our design team engineered it to the high standards of Summer Classics, both aesthetically and in quality of construction. We have been overwhelmed with favorable response wherever it’s been shown or discussed, and we anticipate it will be a highlight of the coming season.”
Accessible outdoor furniture is especially important for industries such as multifamily housing. Common spaces, like pool decks and terraces, are required to be accessible to individuals with disabilities. This new ADA accessible chaise lounge was recently shown at the National Apartment Association Conference. It was extraordinarily well-received, not only for being a great accessible seating option, but also for being made in America. But this chaise isn’t limited to just multifamily housing, it is also perfect for hotels, resorts, and senior living facilities that wish to provide accessible seating options for their guests and residents.
